H. P. Lovecraft was a complicated individual, as many who have researched his past may know. He was racist, schizophrenic, and brilliant. Of the movies inspired by his writing I would rank; Color Out of Space, Necronomicon, Reanimator, Dagon, and The Unnamable, in order. There have been quite a number of other movies made with his writing as mold, but those four were probably the best. Nicolas Cage is always a delight to watch and be entertained by, but this movie was a departure from most of his standardized fare. With some beautifully constructed scenes and some equally horrific scenes, there is a mix here which is great for horror enthusiasts. Tommy Chong is fun to watch as the hermit, too. This was a really fun movie that I can highly recommend to any horror junkie.

Plot summary
The Gardner family moves to a remote farmstead in rural New England to escape the hustle of the 21st century. They are busy adapting to their new life when a meteorite crashes into their front yard, melts into the earth, and infects both the land and the properties of space-time with a strange, otherworldly colour. To their horror, the family discovers this alien force is gradually mutating every life form that it touches—including them.

Horror and some hilarity
Very horrifying horror movie. Very good effects. Good game. The weak point is the weakness of the characters in the face of dangers. But it could be part of the spatial psychological effects. This movie reminds me of an episode of Star Trek where Picard is mentally trapped living a life in an alien society.
Some things are very well camped. The house in the idyllic forest with animals but so isolated, it is long way from civilisation. The anger from the adult characters. The powerlessness of the children and even their curiosity toward very dangerous things. Some of these could be mental control of parasites as exists in nature.
