Meh... It sort of failed to deliver...

Right, well with a statement that reads "delivers maximum shock and awe" brandished on the movie's cover, I must admit that I was harboring some expectations to writer and director Jeremy Saulnier's 2015 thriller. Sure, as I sat down in 2022 to watch "Green Room", then I hadn't even heard about it. So I wasn't really sure what I was in for.

Well, "Green Room" was watchable for a single viewing, I will give writer and director Jeremy Saulnier that much. But "Green Room" hardly lived up to the statement slapped on the movie's cover. So yeah, I was somewhat disappointed with what writer and director Jeremy Saulnier's movie.

The storyline told in "Green Room" was adequate, and there certainly were some tense moments here and there throughout the course of the movie. But there was just something missing to make the movie all the more effective and memorable. Perhaps it was the slow pacing of the narrative, or the fact that too little of anything worthwhile actually happened throughout the course of the movie.

I will say that the movie definitely had some good actors and actresses on the cast list, with the likes of Anton Yelchin and Patrick Stewart. It was, actually, really interesting to see Patrick Stewart in a role such as what he portrayed in "Green Room".

Ultimately then "Green Room" just didn't cut it, pardon the pun. The movie failed to live up to what I was expecting from it. And if you take a step back and look at the overall storyline and narrative, then it just wasn't a very fast-paced or hard-hitting one.

My rating of "Green Room" lands on a very mediocre five out of ten stars. This is a movie that you watch once, and then never return, as the storyline just doesn't have the contents to support more than a single viewing.

Entertaining

Great setup, which has a punk band taking what turns out to be a very bad gig (jeez that's an understatement) and ending up fighting for their lives against neo-Nazis. Early on the cinematography is quite good, and it segues to a feeling of claustrophobia that enhances the drama. It felt like it could have led to something more, however, and ended up as a standard drama. Patrick Stewart is suitably menacing even when all the character motivations don't seem to add up, and was a nice addition to the cast. I loved how they showed that the attack dog was simply loyal to its owner, which was probably my favorite moment in the film. It's not a bad watch and engaging throughout, just not something particularly inspiring.
