Having read the previous reviews which attack the soundtrack I find it strange that I remember little of it. I did however find the edited flash sequences to be a bit overdone. I did not think that had any major impact on the film though - at least not for me.
The two main actors were pretty decent and the build-up toward violence between them I found believable.
Spoiler possibilities.
Did the Lawyer who shoots his adversary go to jail? Did he just snap and lose it?
OR
Was it a calculated move? After all the shooter was beaten up in his own home by a person with known violent tendencies and was shot by his own weapon. This last fact would make for a plausible self-defense argument.
He beat me up - we wrestled for the gun, and he was shot in the struggle
Plot summary
Almost rich, almost thirty, he never lies or cheats, even when his beautiful fiancé orders him around and his ball-busting boss uses threats as motivation. John never makes a sound, eager to do right. Rick Carlson is not. A smooth talking and coercive, Rick turns John's life upside down when he not only moves into his building, but starts working at his competitive law firm.

a comment on us in our time
on the surface this movie tells a story of a over medicated man not knowing what he is all about. he has a well paying legal position in a law firm. he has a very nice girlfriend. he has a beautiful apartment. all seems well.
then a 'friendly yet threatening' man turns his life topsy turvy and everything he took as 'stable' in his life suddenly falls out from under him. he becomes obsessed with this man and his odd friendship.
and isn't that the roll America is playing in the world today? think about it. even this allegory is handed to the viewer with the restroom graffiti he reads - (notice it changes shape as he reads it). are our friends our enemies? who are our enemies? do we have enemies? etc.
that's what i think this movie is all about - being insecure and fearful in a space and time he (we) are unable to properly perceive due to the constant media drugs we swallow willingly daily. instead of stopping to think we react.
this film is edited brilliantly !!!
