Interesting and well made.

El Diario is a captivating horror film that deserves more recognition than some critics have granted it. While a few reviews claim it was poorly executed, I have to respectfully disagree-it's as if we watched entirely different films.

Yes, there are some story elements that aren't perfect, but this is a paranormal horror movie, and expecting it to be completely logical undermines the essence of the genre. The supernatural thrives on mystery, and I've certainly seen films with far bigger flaws receive more praise for their so-called "execution."

What truly stands out in El Diario is the way the actors carry the film. Their performances build and sustain the tension, turning otherwise simple scenes into moments of real suspense. Their commitment makes the eerie atmosphere believable, drawing the viewer deeper into the unsettling narrative. The film doesn't rely solely on jump scares or effects-the cast drives the emotional weight and makes the thrills effective.

The direction also plays a key role, with lighting and cinematography adding a moody, immersive touch to the film. The suspense never fully lets up, and the story keeps you guessing about what will happen next.

If you're in the mood for an intriguing, well-acted horror movie with some creative ideas, El Diario is worth your time. Even the non-paranormal moments add value to the story, not just filling space but enhancing the overall experience. The team behind this film deserves recognition for their work, especially the cast, who elevate the tension and make the thrills truly land.

Give it a try.

Good idea, terrible execution.

I watched this mainly because of Irene Azuela. I've seen her acting in several things and she's very good. Now, about this movie: The general idea is not precisely bad; however the execution is terrible. The script is laughable. We're supposed to believe that a graphologist can detect profession, gender, timeframe, intentions, backstory and even age of the author by barely just reading a notebook. We're also supposed to believe a mother thought it was a good decision to crash their car and try to kill her daughter; and probably herself, when she already was warned that this event would trigger the child's future mental issues. No effort is made whatsoever to explain the visions or paranormal activity; all the noises and light flickering, as our main character isn't even curious about why she's able to see or hear that. Character development is extremely weak; we never learn how the psychologist came into their lives, neither why the girl hated Mariana so much, or why Vera cut herself or even attack the dog. Mauricio Ochmann is OK in this; but the girl and the dad's acting, I thought, was awful. Irene Azuela was not great either; but, granted, she had not much to work with, and I guess the directors didn't do much directing either.

As a mexican, I like to support local cinema, however it's quite hard to do so when there's no effort to improve the storytelling even when they had everything in place to achieve a decent final product. We go from the climax to the ending in less than 10 minutes. Surprisingly, I liked the special effects. That was it.

What are the monsters here?

Was it the child, the mother or the father?

Or were there more monsters?

Guess from the perspective of parenting, the parents unconsiously capable created a monster. The mother had help from the psychiatrist . The farther was at the least unsympathetic.

Or ... are we (i.e. The viewers of this movie) the monsters, because we make the assumptions about the intentions everyone had before things happened; good, bad or simply coincidences?!

OK, bad things happen, but what actually happened?! Was it intentional and truly that horrifying?!

I don't think so.

I guess that's why this movie wasn't categorised as "horror".

The gore is mild and not at all overly explicit.

Anyway, the supernatural aspects are also very intriguing.

There seems to be predestination, BUT there's not or was there?!

Causality and synchrinosity intertwined?

Anyway, for me there was much more to this story. It was mind bogling, entertaining and very interesting.

Have fun watching this intriguing movie!

The acting is excellent.

This is the first movie I've watched that came from Mexico. Glad with Netflix & ready for more where this came from.
